Skorch's story

It was late at night in the swamp. Thunder was booming, lightning was dancing in the dark clouds. There was a woman, she was in a brown hooded cloak. She was holding a dark green quilt in her arms, a child was wrapped in it. The child was probably no older than three years old. She was running, her feet splashing into muddy puddles. Tears were racing down her cheeks as she ran in terror. You could here angry screams and feet thrashing into the ground behind her. The mysterious cloaked woman kept running as fast as she could until she tripped over an over grown root, that was sticking out of the ground, her hood uncovered her face. She was a grey husky, with light blue eyes, and a pure snow white muzzle. The tip of her ears were black, the ends of her hair was also black. She were two necklaces, one was a diamond in crested chocker, and the other was a golden cross, and were gold earrings. She panted heavily, she had a few cuts and bruises on her, but she forced herself to keep going. She stood up shakily and continued to dash through the swamp, she came to a large river. With the mob closing in behind her, she had no tine to think of another way around the river. She jumped into the river and held the dark green quilt above the water as swam as fast as she could. Figuring going through the river would by her some time from the angry mob, but also knowing  the dangers of being in the water, especially at night. Crocodiles were a problem in the swamp, and not being able to see them at night made them all the more dangerous.  She hurried through the water until she felt something nudge against her leg. She stopped dead in her tracks in fear hoping whatever it was would pass by. Unfortunately  that isn't what happened. A large crocodile raised from the water, it must of been at least 8 ft long, if not longer. The women gasped, then clutched the child to her chest, determined to keep the child safe. The crocodile roared then started snapping its jaws at her.  The women began trembling in fear, but kept swimming back from the crocodile to avoid its deadly bites. The crocodile roared again and this time aimed for the child in her arms. “No!" she screamed as she raised the child above her head, but her arm got caught in its jaws. She yelped loudly and held the child in her other arm. The crocodile tried to pull the woman under to drown her and her child. The woman tried desperately to get her arm free, but it was no use the crocodiles jaws were to powerful. Her ears twitched as whimpering sound came from the quilt. She took one glance at the quilt to see the child's sparkling silver eyes looking back at her. Her ears twitched again hearing the mob at the shore line, also hearing them running to take another route over the river. She placed the child on her back, working quickly now. The child gripped the back of her cloak tightly. The woman used her free arm to snatch the cross off of her neck and used the sharp end of it to stab the crocodile in the eye. The crocodile roared in agony releasing her arm. She snatched her arm away immediately then used this chance to get away. She took the child off her back and gripped him firmly against her chest as she thrashed through the water making it to the shoreline. Her arm was bleeding badly, parts of her flesh was torn off. Even with her critical wound, she didn't stop running. After awhile she began to feel lightheaded from losing so much blood. She began to wobble and stumble, she heard the mob getting closer so she pushed herself harder. She kept running until she collapsed. She weakly pushed herself back to her feet and began to run again, tears running down her cheeks once again. "I must keep going...they can't get him...I won't allow it." she kept repeating to herself as she ran. As she weakened she began to slow down and the mob began to come closer. She stopped by a tree, that had large roots growing above the grounds, she kneeled down and unwrapped the child from the quilt and set him deep in one of the roots. "Mama?" the child’s sweet innocent voice called her. The woman cried harder. "I'm so sorry..." The child raised his arms out to the woman cooing quietly. The woman couldn't help, but smile and gently took his little hand. "I love you, my son...I can only hope that they won't find you...I wish I didn't have to leave you...but if I keep you with me...they will surely get you...be safe...Skorch..." the woman’s voice sounded as lovely as bells ringing, it was as soft as velvet, and as sweet as sugar. The sound of the mobs feet stomping into the muddy waters grew louder. "I do not have much time..." the woman spoke to herself. She quickly kissed her son Skorch on the forehead then covered him in leaves and moss. She quickly stood up and ran crying softly. She whispered to herself. "I will miss you...."

12 years later...

The sun was going down, as the twilight began to set in. A wolf was curled up in a tree branch sleeping soundlessly. He was a red  moonwolf/husky. He had long hair, when not in a pony went down to his middle back. He used a blue rubber band to tie up his hair. He had black on the ends of his hair, and on his bangs the ends were black and white. The tip of his right ear was black, he also had two yellow earrings in his right ear, the tip of his left ear was white. He had white markings on his arms and legs. On his back was a birthmark that looked like a large yellow star that symbolized what tribe he was from. He had a brown muzzle and small black freckles on his muzzle, three on each cheek. He was shirtless, his stomach was brown like the inside of his ears, he also had a little bit of extra brown fur growing on his chest. and were blue jeans that was torn on the ends, he also was barefooted and had large claws on his feet and hands. His left hand was white as his right was black and it was the opposite for his feet. His tail was long and furry, the bottom of his tail was white as the top was red. The moonwolf slowly began to open his eyes, revealing he had beautiful sparkling silver eyes. He yawned quietly and stretched a bit, as he looked around his surroundings. He stood up on the branch, he was 5 feet 4 inches and jumped to the muddy puddle below, and began to take a evening stroll around the swamp. He has been living in the swamp since he has been three, he knew every inch of the swamp. Every night when he woke up, he would start the evening with a walk through the swamp, and maybe find something to eat along the way. He has know memory of his parents and practically grew up on his own. He has been to a town that was near by a couple of times, but he wasn't very welcomed. He has been attacked and has been hunted. He tries to stay out of peoples way, he doesn't understand why the people in the town seems to hate him, but he tries not to think about it. He stared up into the sky as he walked allowing his mind to wander. "Ugh...were lost..." an unfamiliar voice groaned. The moonwolf's ear twitched at the sound of the females voice, but had no intention of going to see where it came from, afraid to get the same feared reaction he has gotten many times from people before. "We are not lost! We will be back in town in no time!" this tie it was a males voice, who sounded irritated. "We are going to miss our plane! " The females voice snapped. The moonwolf stopped walking and looked in the direction the voices were coming from. His eyes were half  way closed, he seemed lost in thought. Suddenly the female screamed, as a terrifying roar came from the same direction. The moonwolf's eyes widen, and without thinking dashed towards their directions, he jumped onto a branch and looked down at the two people. They were surrounded by crocodiles. The male pulled out his hand gun, and began shooting the crocodiles. The crocodiles made a horrible screeching sound as they were picked off one by one. The moonwolf began to tremble the sound of the gun shots startled him a bit, he has seen the people in the town try to use it against him. The moonwolf gulped and took one step back on the branch and watched.  The man continued to fire at the crocodiles, until he was out of ammo, when he tried to reload his gun he was smacked into a tree by a large crocodiles tail, he yelped in pain. When he was smacked into the tree his gun flew out of his hand and into the waters somewhere.  The crocodile looked at the woman, its glare sending shivers down the woman’s back. As the crocodile lunged itself to the woman aiming its powerful snapping jaws at her neck, the woman screamed as loud as she could thinking it was all over. The woman was trembling, but noticed the pain never came. Was she already dead she wondered. She looked up to see the large crocodile inches from her snapping its jaws madly. She was confused, wondering why doesn't it attack she looked behind it to see a tall red wolf like creature holding it back by its tail. The moonwolf snatched it back from the woman and snarled at it threateningly. The crocodile whirled around trying to bite the moonwolf furiously. The moonwolf let go of its tail and grabbed its mouth opening it wide. The crocodile twisted and turned, and tried to snap its mouth close on the moonwolf's hands. Just a few seconds later and a sickening crack was heard. The moonwolf ripped the top half of its mouth off and threw it in the water. The woman was still trembling in fear, eyes widen in horror and shock. The moonwolf read her expression, seeing the fear in her eyes and immediately turned to leave. "W-Wait..." the woman managed to stutter out. "P-Please...d-don't go..." The moonwolf glanced behind his shoulder to see the woman slowly walking closer to him, then turned around and took a few steps back. The woman saw that he didn't want her to get to close so she stopped. She smiled weakly. "Th-Thank you...for...for saving us..." she choked out. She slowly stretched her arm out to shake his hand. "My..my name is...Ryku..." The moonwolf looked at her hand then back to her face then looked away. Ryku sighed then pulled her hand back feeling awkward. All of a sudden a gun shot was heard. "Get away from my wife!" the males voice shouted out. The moonwolf yelped in fear, and immediately dashed off. Ryku eyes widened. "No...please wait!" Ryku called out. "Are you alright honey? He didn't hurt you did he?"  the man said in a worried tone, as he rushed to her side. "No, Sanjay he didn't! He saved me! What were you thinking!?" Ryku scolded Sanjay in a ticked off tone. Sanjay was surprised by this reaction and from what he heard. "He...saved you?" he repeated puzzled. "Yes! We have to find him...you scared him!" she said still ticked. "But...what about the plane?" said Sanjay. "The plane can wait...he looked like he was just a kid...the least we can do before we go is take him back to his parents..." Ryku said almost pleadingly. Sanjay sighed then nodded. "Fine..."  Both Ryku and Sanjay went to look for the mysterious creature who helped them. "Ugh...we will never find him.." Sanjay complained. Ryku sighed. "Maybe you are right...come on lets go before we miss our plane..." All of a sudden her ears perked up and she stopped. "Wait...do you hear that?" Sanjay looked at her strangely. "Hear what?" he asked. "It...sounds like whimpering...follow me Sanjay!" Ryku ran off in the direction the whimpering was coming from. Ryku stopped in the area the whimpering was coming from, she began to look around until she was able to pin point exactly where it was coming from. Sanjay stopped behind her panting quietly. "Did you have to run? Sanjay complained. "Shhh!"  Ryku walked up to some vines and branches that were hanging pretty low. She slowly moved them out of the way to see the wolf like creature sitting down with his knees to his chest whimpering. "Hello, there..." Ryku spoke softly. The moonwolf didn't even look up, his ears twitched when she spoke that was the only movement he made. Ryku slowly walked up to him, then kneeled next to him.  She gently placed her hand on top of his head. As a immediate reaction he flinched, and jerked away from her. "Hey...don't be frighten...Sanjay didn't mean to scare you..." she said in a soft tone. The moonwolf slowly looked up at her. His gaze meeting hers. She smiled sweetly. "What is your name, dear?" The moonwolf remained silent. Ryku blinked in confusion but continued to smile. "Can you speak?" The moonwolf slowly nodded. Her smile widened. "Good...so you can understand me....can you at least tell me your name?" The moonwolf stared at her for a moment. Then spoke quietly. "Skorch..."  Ryku's eyes widened by the way his voice sounded. His voice was as soft as velvet and he spoke in a attractive tone, but also mellow and soothing. Ryku caught her breath, to ask him another question. "How old are you...where are your parents?" she asked. "15....I don't have parents....I never knew them..." he replied quietly. Ryku's ears folded back. "Oh my..." was all she managed to get out. Sanjay was waiting patiently listening to them, his ears also lowering a bit. Ryku stood up grabbing Skorch's hands helping him up as well, then walked back to Sanjay. "Sanjay…he doesn't have parents..." she said in a sadden tone. "What do you want me to do about it?" he replied. "Well...maybe we can take him with us...I know we can't take care of him, but we could find a adoption center or something. So at least he will have a home until someone who can take care of him adopts him." Sanjay sighed. "Alright then...will take him with us...but first we need to get out of this swamp and catch our plane!" Skorch was listening to what they were saying, he didn't know what an adoption center was or what a plane was, but to him it sounded fascinating. "I know how to get out of the swamp....I can lead you back to town..." Skorch said quietly.  Ryku smiled. "That is wonderful!" Sanjay looked at Skorch. "Alright then...lead the way..." Skorch nodded a little, then took the lead. They walked for only about five minutes and they were at the border lines of the town. In a rush Sanjay was able to stop a taxi and have him drive them all the way to the airport. Once there Ryku and Sanjay rushed to get another plane ticket for Skorch then dashed to the number their flight was taking off from. Skorch didn't understand why they were running, but decided not to ask. Ryku was holding Skorch's arm as they rushed to the plane, panting quietly from running so much. Skorch was easily able to keep up. Skorch decided to look around his new surroundings, everything was so strange and fascinating in his eyes. He examed the large planes, listening to the roaring sound of the engines, seeing the many colors and the technology, the smell of the different food aromas. When the planes engines roared to life, Skorch muscles tensed up and growled back. Ryku looked back at him confused, but kept going. Before he knew it, all three of them were in the plane.  "Wow..." was all Skorch was able to choke out as he stared into the plane, he looked at the many people in the planes and saw them staring back at him. It made him feel awkward so he started to look around. "Come on, Skorch!" Ryku called out to him leading him to their seats, they all sat down on the uncomfortable seats.  Skorch kept squirming in his seat as he looked around. "...You never been on a plane before...have you?" Ryku asked curiously. Skorch shook his head. "are these seats suppose to be so uncomfortable?" he wondered. "heh...no, sometimes they're real comfortable." Sanjay answered.  When the plane finally took off it startled Skorch, he began to whimper quietly to himself. Ryku giggled quietly to herself. "No worries Skorch...everything will be fine." She smiled sweetly. Skorch blinked, then looked out the window amazed by how high in the air they were, almost the whole flight he was staring out the window, Ryku and Sanjay asked him constant questions through the trip, but Skorch didn't mind. When they finally made it to their destination, they caught a taxi to the adoption center. "Well...here we are...this will be your new home until someone can take care of you...wish Sanjay and I could...but....we just can't, we wouldn't be able to spend time with you like parents should..." Skorch looked around the city, he then looked down and began rubbing his eyes. All the flashing lights blinded him a bit, he already didn't like this new environment, but the idea of having a family didn't sound to bad to him, so he didn't complain. Ryku smiled at him and gave him a quick hug, then whispered softly. " Please take care, Skorch..." Skorch blinked when Ryku hugged him, he didn't know how to react. This new gesture didn't feel threatening to him, so he relaxed a bit. Ryku let go of him and smiled. "Sanjay wait here...I will walk him in." Sanjay nodded and waited patiently for her to return once she entered the center with Skorch. Ten minutes later she came back out. "Come on lets go..." Ryku said quietly, then smiled a little. "Think he'll be okay?" she asked. "Oh yeah, I am sure he'll be fine." Sanjay said reassuringly. “I sure hope your right…”
